“Even one wrong trait of character, one sinful desire cherished, will eventually neutralize all the power of the gospel. The prevalence of a sinful desire shows the delusion of the soul. Every indulgence of that desire strengthens the soul’s aversion to God. The pains of duty and the pleasures of sin are the cords with which Satan binds men in his snares. Those who would rather die than perform a wrong act are the only ones who will be found faithful. Parley not with the enemy. Kill the thorns, or they will kill you. Break up the fallow ground of the heart. Let the work go deep and thorough. Let the plowshare of truth tear out the weeds and briers. 5T 53”

This is so solemn. When we cherish and indulge in evil things, even in the least, all the power of the gospel is rendered null and void? Mercy. It’s crazy that the more we flirt with sin, the more delusional we become. Until at last we find ourselves in this pit that we have no clue how we ended up in. What are the enemy’s cords that he seeks to bind me with?

The pains of duty

The pleasures of sin

"The neglect of duty leads to an indulgence in the pleasures of sin."

The opposite of duty in this context would be laziness or lethargy or indolence. You see this in relationships a lot; the man or the woman is not –doing—something, maybe they aren’t doing anything. It’s crazy because sometimes doing nothing feels so good, or just doing what you want when you want. The neglect of duty leads to an indulgence in the pleasures of sin.

Sometimes I get annoyed that sin is –soooo—pleasurable, like why? How could I ever overcome something that is so pleasurable? Maybe the remedy is in first overcoming the “pains of duty.”

If any struggle with sin, and its pleasures maybe they should ask, what are my duties? Both to God and to man? Starting that blog, devotional IG page, that YouTube channel, maybe washing the dishes, taking out the garbage anything? Maybe the duty is simply to talk to people with the love, patience, empathy and respect, like that person is a child of a Father who is GOD.

"A person who does not recognize their duty, does nothing. A person who does nothing, indulges in sinful pleasures."

DO SOMETHING. For sake your sake, for the sake of others, for Christ’s sake.

Just don’t do, nothing. A person who does not recognize their duty, does nothing. A person who does nothing, indulges in sinful pleasures. Kill the thorns of laziness, lethargy, indolence, kill the weeds of sinful pleasures. Sin may be fun, but it’s certainly not fulfilling. Work for eternal reward, not the immediate one, be deep, be thorough.

God help me to die rather than to sin. IJN.
