Delayed gratification. If you haven’t heard that phrase before, I implore you, please look it up, study it, and ask yourself how is it that you may add it to your psychological and philosophical core.

Often times we are called upon to labour for something that may not bear fruit for years.

Standard apples trees may take up to 8 years to bear fruit.

Would you still plant it?

We tell ourselves and our families and our friends, getting a degree will take too long, starting a ministry or organization will be a lot of work and may not give the desired results.

The ability to sustain effort over long periods of time, without seeing any immediate sign of success is one of the most important things for success.

These same principles apply to spiritual pursuits.

Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

This scripture says that sometimes people weep when planting seeds, but eventually rejoice when they harvest.

Embrace the weeping, but plant anyway.

One brick upon another, and the highest wall is made; One flake upon another, and the deepest snow is laid. {7T 235.3}
Patient continuance in well-doing—this is to be our motto. We are to put forth persevering effort, advancing step by step until the race is run, the victory gained. {7T 235.4}

God, please give us the perseverance of Jesus.

IJN,

amen
