The greatest triumph given us by the religion of Christ is control over ourselves. Our natural propensities must be controlled, or we can never overcome as Christ overcame. {4T 235.1}

It is easy to find fault with others; we all have that syndrome, the one where we listen to a sermon and wish that our one friend or family member were there to listen.

We spend most of our days looking at others, literally, unfortunately, probably also spiritually. I think we tend to look at others so much because were afraid of what we might see when we look at ourselves.

Jesus, looked at us, and wasn't afraid, He was motivated. This is why it is so crucial to look at ourselves through a Jesus lens; if we are prideful, it'll be a reality check, if we are downcast, it will be motivation to see that we are loved beyond our understanding.

It is a solemn thing to cultivate the skill of examining oneself.

The greatest triumph given us by the religion of Christ is not control over friends or family, but ourself.

The more we examine and know self, the more we are compelled to the feet of Jesus, the more prepared we will be to overcome.

If we should ever overcome, the natural propensities must be controlled.

The warfare against self is the greatest battle that was ever fought. 3T 106

Our greatest battle will, by God's grace, become our greatest triumph.

Victory over self-ishness.

The yielding of self, surrendering all to the will of God, and being clothed with humility, possessing that love that is pure, peaceable, and easy to be entreated, full of gentleness and good fruits, is not an easy attainment. And yet it is [our] privilege and [our] duty to be a perfect overcomer here. The soul must submit to God before it can be renewed in knowledge and true holiness. The holy life and character of Christ is a faithful example. 3T 106

Father, give us strength we pray, to look at ourselves, through the eyes of Jesus.

IJN,

amen
